Barry Hu

Barry Hu joined our Sanghai Office in 2025 as a Senior Surveyor, having compiled an extensive experience of 18 years in the maritime and shipbuilding industry.

With an advanced technical and Maritime Law foundation, he possesses comprehensive expertise in marine surveying, technical supervision, ship repair, newbuilding projects, and quality management. Throughout his career, he has held senior technical and managerial positions with international shipowners, shipyards, and marine consultancy companies, both in China and abroad (Singapore, Australia & Turkey). His professional background includes a wide range of marine surveys, technical superintendency, project management, construction and repair supervision and Owner representation.

As such, he brings a broad spectrum of maritime expertise and know-how covering all aspects of main and auxiliary machinery maintenance, ship repair and shipbuilding industry across China on a variety of ships type, including legal aspects of maritime business.

Since joining us, Barry has successfully undertaken a variety of casualty surveys, including major machinery failures and collisions, as well as JH Risk Assessment / Condition and Loss Prevention Surveys on various types of vessels, acting on behalf of H&M Underwriters and P&I Clubs.

• Owner’s Representative – Hanzevast Shipping (Netherlands, project basis), 2014 to 2015 – 2 years
