Manuel joined our firm as of March 2025, as a Senior Surveyor of our Las Palmas office.
After completing his studies, Manuel begun his career as a foreman of Ship Repairs Contractors for 2 years, when he was involved in hands-on boiler, pipework and specialized welding repairs as well as managing the drydocking projects of several vessels at Astican Shipyard, gaining valuable experience in ship repairs and specialized welding techniques, including propeller welding/repairs.
Subsequently, Manuel joined a Naval Architects & Marine Engineering for the next 5 years, under which he was engaged in various new construction projects, including the design and arrangement of engines, pipes and equipment for new built vessels, in CAD & 3D format, also attending the vessels at construction site for monitoring and verifying proper installation of the designed equipment/outfitting at the various stages. He also contributed to the construction of the S-80 Submarine project at NAVANTIA Shipyard in Cartagena, where he was responsible for coordinating all services onboard and preparing detailed piping systems and isometric drawings.
After that he played a key role as a Naval Architect in the repair of the Stena TAY Rig at the Astican Shipyards, overseeing the budget for the works, monitoring progress, and updating as-built drawings of piping systems and platform layouts.
Manuel then moved to Zamakona Shipyard in Las Palmas, Spain, where he served as Ship Project Manager. In this role, he coordinated and controlled docking and undocking operations, as well as various machinery, electrical and outfitting repair works, also managing repair budget, cost control and final invoicing for both the Yard and subcontractors.
Having decided a change in his career, Manuel joined Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore Division in Las Palmas, as Principal Marine Surveyor, Head Office and MMSA and MLC Inspector for ships and offshore units in service, for the entire Canary Islands region, for the next 10 years. He conducted Class and Statutory Surveys, ISM, ISPS, and MLC audits for an average of 180 ships per year, including oil and chemical tankers, gas carriers, passenger ships, offshore units, and container ships. Thus, he has attained invaluable and in-depth knowledge on all types of vessels’ design, machinery, safety systems and regulatory requirements.
Having completed the above chapter of his carrier as a Class Surveyor, Manuel has joined our Las Palmas office, to bring a wealth of expertise to our team, with his vast experience across shipbuilding, repairs, and expertise in marine surveying.
