Panamax Bulk Carrier – Severe bottom and tailshaft / propeller / rudder assemblies damage after hard grounding in heavy weather after steering gear failure, leaving loading port of Jorf Lasfar, Morocco.Instructed by Japanese H&M Underwriters.
SURVEYOR’S ROLE
Istanbul office
- Determined and mapped on structural plans necessary steel renewals boundaries, calculated steel renewals weight and verified “as fitted” quantum on completion.
- Closely monitored repair progress, reporting regularly to Principals, including any alterations of quantum and costs thereof.
- Guided and assisted Owners in negotiating final invoice with yard.
- Ensured a fast steel renewal production rate, combining pre-fabrication of bulbous bow and blocks sections of bottom plating/internals with in situ renewals – a total of approx. 1,000 tonnes
- Achieved repair of rudder blade and stock (as opposed to renewal)
- Propeller & Tailshaft renewed.
Pro- actively participated in all stages of the repairs, scrutinized and negotiated the final Yard invoice and assisted Owners in concluding the project timely, without delays in vessel’s departure
