SURVEYOR’S ROLE

Piraeus office

  • Emergency travelling to Cyprus and attendance on board arranged (a day before New Year’s Eve).
  • Meanwhile, our senior Piraeus surveyor attended at Owners’ office, for jointly coordinating salvage and ensuring swift and safe refloating operations, by local Salvors.
  • Monitoring and verification of temporary repairs (as recommended by Class BV) as well as to verify preparations on board / fitness of the vessel for the intended passage to Tuzla Repair Zone, Istanbul / Turkey under tow.
  • Carried out Towage Approval Survey and verified tug suitability / vessel’s readiness for the towed passage to Tuzla Repair Zone, Turkey
  • Meanwhile, drafted a comprehensive initial Specification of Repairs for inviting tenders from Tuzla region yards.
  • After detailed evaluation and comparison of quotations collected, repairs were awarded.

Istanbul office

  • Block pre-fabrication of new main deck / Cargo Tanks structural sections commenced prior vessel’s arrival at yard.
  • Established for full extent of structural and outfitting damages after joint inspections with Yard/Class.
  • Various meetings on planning the sequence of damage repairs, hull alignment measurement and stress calculations, jointly with Yard and Owners’ Superintendent.
  • Organized repairs sequence and necessary equipment/spare parts orders jointly with Owners/Yard Reps.
  • Joint meetings with Owners’ Superintendent and Paint Experts for ‘marine line’ special coating application and requirements, to ensure proper surface preparation.

With our pro-active approach and team efforts and coordination of both Piraeus and Istanbul offices, achieved a swift and safe re-floating of the vessel and a cost/time effective result on permanent repairs execution and completion within quoted time frames.
